Robert Bell with Camarillo, CA-based Western Onion provided us with video and photo news out of the Bakersfield and Grapevine areas this week. In Bakersfield, he said, “… conventional harvest continues unabated.” He added, “We have many onions originally planted for foodservice that we are now packing for the fresh market.”
And, Robert said, “This will continue for the next couple of months or for the foreseeable future until supplies are exhausted. If foodservice orders pick up, onions will be processed. If not, then they will be packed for the fresh market.” As with virtually every sector of produce, the onion industry is adapting to meet demand and supply markets.
