The death toll continues to rise as Southern states face the devastating loss of human life and untold destruction and damage to property and possessions brought on by Hurricane Helene.
Making landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on Sept. 26, the massive storm churned northward for 800 miles, killing more than 160 people as it battered six states with catastrophic rain and winds. As of Tuesday, more than 500 people were missing in the wake of the monster storm.
Millions were left without power and a source of drinking water in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. As of Tuesday, Oct. 1, sources were reporting some progress in restoring power and other infrastructure components.
Fox News reported on Tuesday that widespread power outages persisted adding, “While power outages have fallen below 2 million for the first time since the storm, approximately 1.6 million homes and businesses remain without electricity in the hardest-hit states as of Tuesday.”
