Salinas-based American Takii has gone live with its new website, www.takii.com, as a means of providing “a comprehensive industry resource for both vegetable and flower seed buyers,” according to a company press release.
Established in 1982, the California subsidiary of Takii & Company Ltd. in Kyoto, Japan, is part of the company’s overall 181-year history. Family-owned Takii “is dedicated to continuous efforts toward the best science, research and ingenuity within the company and the worldwide industry,” the release stated, adding that the website was developed through research on “what users most wanted to find on the new website.” Early indications were that both vegetable and flower seed buyers were looking for “technical information on Takii varieties,” and so the site was designed to give nearly every variety its own tech sheet with specific cultural information.
“All the vegetable varieties are grouped by crop category: fruit, leafy, root and Asian vegetables. Flowers are grouped by bedding & pot, cut flowers and grasses, sedges & rush,” the release stated.
One of Takii’s best-known products is the Trailblazer onion, and, along with other produce items and flower varieties, site visitors will find high-resolution photos of the Trailblazer for download.
“The site includes PDFs of almost all their catalogs,” the release said, adding, “Other features include a complete list of vegetable seed dealers, organized by region, and the brokers who sell the flower seed, all with contact information. Visitors to the site will find bios of both management, vegetable and flowers sales teams.”
A resource page includes industry trade associations and sources for growing information and scientific research. The release noted that the site “may become a go-to-site for everything from events to recipes using Takii varieties.”
Future plans include the addition of videos taken at field trials.
