In what can best be described as a fluid situation, Canadian truck drivers have been staging protests against that country’s vaccine mandates.
In a Jan. 19 story by Independent contributor Sravasti Dasgupta posted at https://sports.yahoo.com/canadian-truckers-opposed-vaccine-mandates-074126178.html?guccounter=1, it was reported that dozens of Canadian truckers had blocked the highway near the United States-Manitoba border in protest of the mandates.
“Videos shared on social media showed truck drivers carrying Canadian flags and holding a demonstration on the Manitoba Highway 75, which connects the Emerson community in Manitoba with the U.S. city of Pembina in North Dakota,” the story said.
Traffic has slowed on both sides of the border, causing delays for vehicles entering and leaving Canada.
“The drivers were protesting against Canada’s new vaccine mandates for truck drivers, which came into force on Saturday,” the story said.
“Canadian truckers against cross-border vaccine mandates have started to block all lanes of traffic to and from the United States.”
It went on to say that the Canadian vaccine mandate came into effect on Jan. 15, and “the U.S. plans to have a similar mandate come into effect on Jan. 22.”
