Our friend Dr. Thaddeus Gourd with Colorado State University Extension for Adams County contacted us with information on this year’s onion field day, which is scheduled for Sept. 5 at Sakata Farms north of Fort Lupton.
The annual event is held “provide the state’s onion growers with information to make educated decisions on variety selection based on environmental and pest conditions in the region,” Dr. Gourd said. The Sept. 5 field day is hosted by the Adams County Extension office located at the Riverdale Regional Park in Brighton, CO, and the trial at Sakata Farms north of Fort Lupton includes 39 onion cultivars from eight seed companies, he noted.
“In addition, Colorado State University graduate student Tyler Mason, who evaluated organic herbicides for possible use in onions, will give a summary of the results to date at this field day,” Thad added. Also, “Brad Walker of Brandt Company will talk about Glucopro, a Plant Growth Regulator application to onions in the early bulb stage.”
