American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall asked Congress on Dec. 17 to pass the continuing resolution bill that includes support for farmers.
“I know I speak for farmers across the country when I say thank you to Speaker Johnson, Leaders Jeffries, Schumer and McConnell, and many other members of Congress for recognizing the incredibly difficult agricultural economy by including in the year-end legislation: much-needed economic assistance for farmers; emergency aid for communities devastated by natural disasters; a farm bill extension; and for making E-15 available at fuel pumps all year long,” Duvall said.
He continued, “The high cost of supplies, low commodity prices and out-of-reach interest rates are a recipe for farm failures without help. That’s why nearly ten thousand Farm Bureau members reached out to Congress in a matter of days, to encourage them to keep working toward a better deal and not leave agriculture behind.
“There is no doubt in my mind that for many farmers, the critical funding in this bill could make the difference between planting a crop next year and giving up. We appreciate that members of Congress rolled up their sleeves to ensure farmers can continue to deliver the safest, most affordable and abundant food supply in the world.
“We urge Congress to pass this legislation and then return in January ready to tackle the challenges facing agriculture. Another one-year extension of the farm bill addresses immediate needs, but only a new, modernized farm bill will bring certainty for America’s families, farmers, ranchers and rural communities.”
