Fox Packaging, a leading innovator in the packaging industry, proudly announces the successful elimination of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) from all its flexible packaging options, aligning with recent state regulations and reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Several U.S. states have enacted regulations addressing the intentional use of PFAS in flexible food packaging, with prohibitions and restrictions going into effect as early as 2022 and continuing through 2024.
Maine, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and California are among the states that have implemented bans or restrictions on PFAS inclusion in food packaging, demonstrating a growing commitment to addressing environmental and health concerns associated with these substances.
Iliana Csanyi, Materials Engineer Specialist at Fox Packaging, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “By eliminating PFAS from our products and processes, we have shown our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.”
Lucas Fox, Director of Operations at Fox Packaging, highlighted the importance of collaboration with supply chain partners, stating, “Supply chain relationships were vital to the success of our PFAS-free process.”
In January 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized a significant new use rule strengthening the regulation of PFAS, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance in addressing PFAS concerns.
Aaron Fox, Vice President of Fox Packaging, emphasized the company’s dedication to maintaining product quality while adhering to regulatory requirements, stating, “Material selection requires a careful balance between compliance with state laws and maintaining the functionality and performance of our flexible packaging.”
