The Malheur Experiment Station’s Onion Variety Day will be Aug. 25, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 595 Onion Ave., Ontario, OR.
Stuart Reitz, Director of the Malheur Station, noted earlier in the season, “We weren’t able to have our field days and other public events in 2020, and so we are excited to get back to those, and we are planning to have our onion variety day.”
Five dozen varieties have been trialed. In addition to the field event, there will be a special presentation by Dr. Christina Hagerty of OSU’s Columbia Basin Ag Research Center in Pendleton. Dr. Hagerty will speak on Fusarium head blight in wheat especially when wheat is planted after corn.
Refreshments will be served in the field, and lunch will be served at noon in the barn.
