June 27 brings yet another reason to party with pungency when the onion, arguably the planet’s oldest cultivated vegetable, will hold center stage for its sweet/mild/savory/robust/ flavor spectrum, its versatility in any and every cuisine and meal setting – and its long-studied and proven health benefits.
First officially observed in 2016 to commemorate the 1913 incorporation of the National Onion Association, National Onion Day lauds those who created the NOA “to protect the interests of America’s onion growers, and onions remain their business to this day.”
Today the organization represents onion producers, shippers, packers, and suppliers nationwide. More info on the National Onion Association can be visited at https://www.onions-usa.org/ , and additional information on National Onion Day can be found at https://nationaltoday.com/national-onion-day/ .
