Las Cruces, NM-based National Onion Inc. kicked off its 41st season last week as onion marketer and seller for Agrocosa, a Gomez Farm company, in a long-standing partnership that provides high quality short-day and intermediate white, yellow, and red onions to the U.S. and Canadian summer markets.
Agrocosa was started in the 1950s and produced crops that included corn, wheat, cotton, alfalfa, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes. During the 1970s the decision was made to test the international market, so fresh onions were produced and sold beyond Mexican borders. Its brands include Rio Gold yellows, Rio Pearl whites, Rio Ruby reds and Rio Sweet carton sweet yellows.
National Onion Inc. VP Micah Smith said, “Our longevity is based on a combination of product quality and customer service. Agrocosa has the unique ability to grow and yield a consistent product year after year, which has allowed us to further the brand since 1982.”
National Onion will be selling Rio Gold, Rio Pearl, Rio Ruby and Rio Sweet onions from Mexico nationwide and in Canada until mid-July and then transition to other sales agreements with growers in the U.S.
