Reporting a break in what had been a wet planting and growing season, David Kana with NZ Onion said in his September newsletter that the first week of the month was sunny and cool.
“Well, it’s another season with its many challenges,” David wrote. “First, a very wet sowing season and heavy rains until now. This last week has turned out fine and cool.”
He continued, “Onions are getting much-needed sunlight. Germinations look good after the cold and wet that we have had.”
David reported that export volumes were “131,000 ton so far to all destinations, less than this time last year.”
And he said, “Forecast looks fine till Friday then a week of showers.
