Our contacts in New Zealand are reporting that the new crop onions are showing some growth stunting due to a challenging planting season and higher than normal winter rainfalls.
“Some production areas in NZ are worse affected than others,” the most recent report noted.
“There have been many overcast days and lack of sunlight, but generally our crops are in good health,” it said.
“In Pukekohe we are on track with our New Zealand Onion normal acreage, and while we look forward to a better export season than 2022, we still have a crop to grow.”
And, the report said, “We anticipate packing and shipping early February 2023 everything going well.”
