For the sixth year Peri & Sons Farms in Yerington, NV, is shipping sweets and other onion varieties in its PINK Breast Cancer Awareness consumer onion packages.
The pink packs are available in retail stores nationwide from late September through December, and the promo includes “consumer-engagement aspects such as a QR code that leads to a landing page (www.periandsons.com/giving_back),” where free “longevity” recipes developed by cancer specialist and wellness cookbook author Rebecca Katz are posted.
Consumers are also invited to vote online for a charity to receive Peri & Son’s annual donation. Recipients have included the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Susan G. Komen /Northern Nevada.
And to thank consumers for taking the time to vote for a charity and engage with the promotion, Peri & offers a free “PINK” magnet.
The pink promo bags were first introduced in 2010 in response to customers, particularly retailers, who were looking for a pink promotion to tie into the national Breast Cancer Awareness campaign being featured throughout their stores.
“In our own little way, we wanted to heighten awareness for the wonderful research being done to find a cure for breast cancer, but we also wanted our message to be one of prevention through healthy eating habits. That theme, cooking and eating healthy food, is consistent throughout our marketing communications, whether to our customers or to our consumers,” said Teri Gibson, director of marketing for Peri & Sons Farms.
The package style has been kept open, making it customizable to meet the needs of individual retailers. The bags can be packed with medium-sized white, yellow, red or sweet onions in 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-lb. weights.
