Every day ought to be one of gratitude, of giving thanks for the abundance in our lives and acknowledging that we are blessed to live in these United States – acknowledging that we are, indeed, Americans.
Every year should be one of hope that springs from faith. And faith should abide in us all.
But this day, this year and this Thanksgiving, we believe, may just warrant an extra measure of thankfulness. Onion Business is, with head bowed and heart pouring forth, saying, “Thank You, Lord God, for Your love and Your provision. Thank You for seeing us through the turmoil that has gripped our beloved nation, and thank You for bring us to this new day of Thanksgiving. The horizon shines brightly, and we see Your hand holding the lantern. Amen.”
There’s no question it has been a trying period in this country’s history, with volleys of divisive rhetoric shot by both sides, dodgy tactics employed by those that We the People expected to be above the fray. In many ways it’s been a civil war, fought with as much passion and vengeance as THE Civil War. The aftermath of the last several years calls to mind President Abraham Lincoln’s great Gettysburg Address, which he delivered Nov. 19, 1863, to dedicate a new national cemetery. It was at the site of t of a battleground where more than 50,000 soldiers – men and boys from, again, both sides – gave their lives in a battle that raged for three days.
In honoring those who fought and died for a united nation, under God, Lincoln proclaimed, “ It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
