Recently OnionBusiness received a link from our friend Robert Bell with Western Onion in Camarillo, CA, and it provided us with great entertainment and education on the infamous Onion Scandal as told by The History Guy, Lance Geiger, on his YouTube channel. The History Guy also has an expansive website at https://thehistoryguy.com .
Without stealing any thunder from The History Guy, we will share that The Great Onion Scandal tells the story of Midwest onion grower Vincent Kosgua, who, in the 1950s, teamed up with produce wholesaler Sam Siegel to corner the commodities futures market for onions.
In so doing, the two men brought legislation that declared onions the only agricultural product banned from trading in the commodity futures.
This is a fascinating, well-researched story worth a listen, a share, and a thumbs-up. Enjoy!
