In the Aug. 19 release of a new video, Irvine, CA-based Western Growers called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Farm Workforce Modernization Act “to ease the industry’s labor shortage and, in turn, help lower the burden of food prices on consumers.”
An Aug. 23 release from the organization said, “The current broken immigration system fails to provide the workers the agriculture industry needs to support our country’s food production. According to a recent study by Texas A&M University, solving the labor shortage will reduce food prices.”
It added, “The bipartisan bill, passed twice by the U.S. House of Representatives, provides a path to legal status for experienced, domestic farmworkers and streamlines the H-2A temporary worker visa program.
“By doing their part and passing the FWMA, the U.S. Senate would help protect the future of our farms and food supply.”
