Last week, we initially reported that the WSU Onion Field Day would be hosted on August 28, which was incorrect. Though the post was corrected, OnionBusiness wants to be sure you mark your calendar for this event which will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at an L&L Ag. Production location in Connell, WA.
WSU is celebrating its 35 anniversary of the Onion Cultivar Evaluation. A BBQ lunch will follow at the Scooteney Reservoir Picnic area.
Information provided by Tim Waters with WSU Benton-Franklin Extension said that this year’s trial includes 47 onion cultivars and lines from seven different seed companies to compare and contrast under local growing conditions. The field day will kick off with a short crop overview, and participants will then have the opportunity to examine each of the entries in the trial. WSU and USDA Onion Researchers will be on hand to discuss their research. For more information, contact Tim Waters at 509-545-3511 or Carrie Wohleb with WSU Grant-Adams Extension at 509-707-3510.
