Kerrick Bauman with L&L Ag. Production in Connell, WA, told us the recent WSU Extension Variety Trials and Field Day in Moses Lake was well-attended and featured several dozen varieties from a number of seed companies.
“Last week was a busy one for the PNW onion variety trials and showcases,” Kerrick said. “The WSU Extension onion cultivar trial and field day was on Thursday, Aug. 31, and the trial this year was hosted and grown by Skone & Conners west of Moses Lake.”
Noting the trial was planted on April 6, Kerrick added, “This year, the trial was drip irrigated and consisted of 52 entries from seven different seed companies. The WSU trial combines the actual trial observations as well as an educational portion of current topics with the current crop production. These topics are addressed by the Extension personnel as they have been involved with ongoing research and also identifying issues that arise during the production cycle.”
The onion grower/shipper also extended “special thanks to all of the seed company representatives, sponsors, and the amazing WSU extension and research personnel.”
