A day jam-packed with onion funion is planned for June 17 in downtown Walla Walla, WA, when the 33rd Annual Sweet Onion Festival showcases all things Walla Walla Sweet.
The official Washington State Vegetable, so declared by Gov. Christine Gregoire in 2007, brings not only the Walla Walla Valley community together but also draws visitors from across the Northwest to the annual 5k Funion Runion, the popular Bald as an Onion Contest, challenging Sweet Onion Bowling, family-friendly Sweet Onion Sack Races, Face Painting, live music, arts and crafts, dance team demos, onion eating competitions and several chef demos throughout the day.
The festival gets underway Saturday morning, and among the chefs showing how best to use a Walla Walla Sweet are Erol Kanmaz, Ralph Pesznecker, Karla Zambrano, Jackie Sharp, Patti Curfman and a special presentation at 3:30 p.m. featuring Curfman, Kanmaz Pesznecker and the Sous Chef from the Seattle Seahawks.
And this just in for another Walla Walla gathering:
