Two long-held traditions at Nunhems USA in Parma, ID, are officially on the 2017 calendar, with the Annual Onion Showcase moved to October 27, and a Story Farms Field Tour coming up next week.
According to Nunhems Account Manager Bryan Bair, the 34th Annual Bayer Onion Showcase, is set for Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parma facility, 1200 Anderson Corner Rd.
Bair said that in 2017, “We have witnessed several changes, from new varieties to new acquaintances, and this year we are excited to announce a change in the time, location, and schedule of the event.”
He said, “As the global specialist we recognize there is more to growing onions than seeds alone. Innovative techniques from sowing to how we market our produce are fast approaching, and to better accommodate those we serve, we’ve decided to bring those ideas to the showcase. We’ve partnered with industry experts to address and answer questions on topics including onion market and consumer trends; seed enhancements; precision plantings; drip irrigation and water optimization; and onion bulb storage and ventilation.”
The hope is, Bair said, “that we can not only share our knowledge of onions but also add valuable insight throughout the entire onion produce chain. The event will also host samples of the Nunhems onion portfolio grown at Story Farms and research GS^2 plots along with their correlated yield and quality results. Local and regional Bayer onion representatives will be on hand to answer questions. There will be a delicious catered lunch as well as industry expert seminars and the opportunity to tour our Bayer processing facility.”
Bair also announced that the Story Farms Field Tour will take place on Aug. 23 at Story Farms in Roswell, ID. Bair and Sales Representative Ashley Southerland will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to lead the tour, and handouts with yield estimates, water and snacks will be provided to attendees.
“We understand that some growers continue to enjoy viewing the growing crop and have made it a longtime tradition,” Bair said in announcing the tour.
