The 60th Annual Idaho and Malheur County Onion Growers Meeting held at the Four Rivers Cultural Center in Ontario, OR, on Feb. 4 saw a huge turnout, and offered attendees a jam-packed schedule of meeting topics that included research reports, cost of production data, a transload update and an Onion Marketing Order Committee updates.
OnionBusiness’ Sherise Jones covered the event and said, “In addition to the informative sessions provider to growers, trade show vendors covered the center’s floor space with booths promoting seed, equipment, services and more.” She said Zane Beams with Seedway summed up vendors’ sentiments about the event, commenting, “This event is important to us. It’s is a great opportunity to connect with customers and friends in the industry to not only promote our seed but show our support to area growers.”
George Martin with Martin Manufacturing, Inc. operated the Martin booth with Aaron DeHority for the second year and told Sherise, “It’s been great. We have seen so many customers here, and it’s good to network with them.”
“Some of our readers may not know George,” Sherise said, adding, “But we feel pretty confident you have seen his custom equipment, like the impressive planter used in the Onion Business WBH planting video we filmed in 2018.” Watch the video showcasing Martin’s custom planter at the conclusion of this article.
Sherise also attended the luncheon, reporting it “was standing room only for the Hall of Fame presentation and talk provided by Cliff Bentz, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives.” Sherise said Cliff describes himself as “Pro-Life, Pro-Gun, Pro-Trump.” At the lunch Bentz was introduced by Grant Kitamura of Baker & Murakami Produce, who said, “Cliff Bentz successfully stood up for rural Oregon for 12 years as a state representative and will continue his work to strengthen rural Oregon’s economy by reducing regulations, lowering taxes and supporting President Trump’s policies.”
