Mexico:
Don Ed Holmes with The Onion House in Weslaco, TX, said the first loads out of Tampico will start on Jan. 16. “That will be cartons sweets and some whites,” Don Ed said on Jan. 4. “Volume will get heavier in early February, but we have good acreage ready for January.”
Rio Grande Valley, TX:
Don Ed Holmes with The Onion House in Weslaco said that weather in South Texas has been so nice that this year the crop could be ahead of schedule. “Our normal start time is around March 20, but due to the warm weather we could be earlier,” he said on Jan. 4.
Imperial Valley, CA:
Gerry Valois with Western Onion in Camarillo, CA, sent us great photos of Rio Farms/Gills Onions in the Brawley area of the Imperial Valley. Gerry said the crops look very good, with “no issues that I could see or detect at this time.”
