Some months ago OnionBusiness.com recognized several onion operations that have made giving a regular part of their daily operations. Not only do we applaud their actions, but we also walk that walk by contributing to Feeding America.
We encourage you to join us in in that effort, and you can find out more by visiting the web site at http://www.feedingamerica.org. There you’ll learn about the hunger problem in this country, and you’ll discover a number of opportunities to help, from monetary donations to actual food contributions.
Feeding America is the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States, and its network of food banks provides more than 3.6 billion meals annually to virtually every community in the United States. This is accomplished through food pantries and meal programs.
For the food banks, Feeding America “secures donations from national food and grocery manufacturers, retailers, shippers, packers and growers and from government agencies and other organizations. Feeding America then moves donated food and grocery product to member food banks.” Food banks themselves then distribute the food and other items through their own programs.
If you want to make a monetary donation, that’s welcomed by Feeding America as well. Any amount makes a difference.
As the site says, “The economy may be improving since the Great Recession, but the recovery is still leaving many of Americans who were hit the hardest behind. Millions of people are still struggling to get by because of underemployment, stagnant wages and rising costs of living. In fact, more than 46 million people still turn to the Feeding America network each year for extra support.”
Matthew 25:40 tells us, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Amen.
