Spring-going-into-summer generally sees everyone in the Idaho-E. Oregon Onion Committee prepping for the coming season. Final loads of the past year’s onions have gone out the door, and the collective index finger hits “refresh mode” in anticipation of the new crop.
June and July 2020 are no different, although it’s agreed that getting here was by a slightly altered path. But with the onions growing and the sheds being readied, the Committee is making upgrades in its promotional efforts. The quarterly newsletter that was launched in 2019 has increased its frequency to every other month in print, and a digital version is also being sent to subscribers at no charge.
A 2020 facelift is being given to the Committee’s website, www.USAOnions.com, where a snappy new look is accompanied by updated info and industry connections as well as additional storage and handling tips added for retail and foodservice. Free downloadable point-of-sales material is also available for retail, and foodservice pros have easy access to great suggestions for incorporating onions into unexpected menu presentations, with some nifty prep tips to enhance efficiency in any dining-out setting.
To cover all bases, the Committee is including colorful and creative recipe downloads for both retail consumers and foodservice pros.
