With summertime here and the world’s tastebuds geared up for backyard cooking, the Idaho-E. Oregon Onion Committee is once again running a fun social media promo featuring Weber grill tongs and charcoal grills as weekly giveaways.
The 2018 program will begin in July – so follow @usaonions on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the contests, and learn more about USA Onions on Pinterest and YouTube too.
Back in 2012, the committee launched a terrific promo partnering with Weber Grill through 2014. This summer, as the IEOOC onion season ramps up, the drawings and prizes are designed both to increase followers and subscribers while at the same raising awareness about the convenience and benefits using a grill when it comes to things like parties, tailgating or just enjoying a family meal at home.
According to our friend Herb Haun, who chairs the IEOOC promotion committee, the program is also “a nice way to thank our loyal onion buyers and consumers, and it should be a lot of fun too!”
While you’re busy entering on the various social media platforms, you might also appreciate looking at some incredible onion-centered recipes we found by noodling around on the net. First one is called Barbecued Onions, and it was adapted from Steven Raichlen’s BBQ USA. Go to https://barbecuebible.com/recipe/barbecued-onions/.
You’re going to need eight peeled onions; a sizeable amount of unsalted butter; four slices of yummy bacon, cut small; a half cup of your fave BBQ sauce, with red sweet suggested; and some freshly ground black pepper. What’s not to love, right?
We found another recipe for roasted onions at https://www.thespruceeats.com/roasted-onions-2217335.
It’s easy and calls only for smaller onions, olive or other cooking oil, sea salt and either balsamic or cider vinegar. And a grill. Awesome.
We also heartily suggest you take a look at BBQ Bacon Meatball Stuffed Onions at https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=VCLUvRa0N7c
Makes us wish someone would hurry up and invent Smell-O-Vision…
