Smack in the heart of PMA Fresh Summit’s “Georgia Town,” Bland Farms’ marketing focus at this year’s expo was a continuation of its sweet onions and sweet potato program, which was first rolled out in January 2014.
Delbert Bland commented to OnionBusiness.com during the show that marketing both products is a natural for his Southern-based company.
Headquartered in Glennville, GA, 60-plus-year-old Bland Farms is the largest grower, packer, and shipper of sweet onions in the United States and represents roughly half of the entire Vidalia® sweet onion volume. The company’s website, blandfarms.com, noted the operation has “the largest controlled-environment storage capacity in the industry.”
The Vidalia and Bland Farms onion brands are strongly linked, and now that Bland is offering sweet potatoes, it’s expected that both Vidalia onions and Bland sweet potato demand will continued to grow.
As part of the focus on sweet potatoes and sweet onions, Bland Farms offered an assortment of samples in their both, including mini sweet potato pies – and the web site provides a full showcase for sister company Vidalia Brands, which offers value-added onion and sweet potato products as well as a variety of sweet onion condiments and Vidalia® Sweet Onion Kettle Chips and Barbecue Sweet Onion Kettle Chips.
